For the first time, MIS launched an amateur singing contest at the school gym last August 31. 2017 featuring all-live accompaniment from a full band. The Harcon Band’s wonderful musical skills made the event very exciting, and helped enhance the singing prowess of the students.
Elementary and high school students participated in the contest. Fifteen elementary students and thirteen high school students showed their potential in this field of craft.

The panel of judges were Lebron Jean Gallano, Emily Bolinas, and Ervz Tia. According to Emily Bolinas, a radio host/singer, “We found difficulty in choosing the best. They were all good and displayed different styles and techniques in singing. It was really a tight competition.”

Despite the tough competition, Fiona Sibal emerged the winner of the Lower Elementary Department. Her parents jumped with joy. They said that they were very proud of their daughter. The group “YOHANA”, composed of Yohance Buie, Naomi Grospe, and Hana David, was declared the winner of the Upper Elementary Department. Their voices were perfectly suited to the song Anak ng Pasig. Finally, Quim Jacey Calderon was declared the winner in the High School Department. The judges were impressed by Quim’s powerful voice, finely honed dynamics and emotional riffs – masterfully performed at such a young age.

The event inspired the students and parents of MIS. The event also helped build the participants’ confidence, exposed them to live music, gave them a chance for industry professionals to see them performing, and of course, helped them develop their singing abilities. We hope to have more of these competitions to show off our talents and shine like stars in the field of singing.
