As part of the Junior High School Guidance Program, the Grade 9 students went on a university and college tour last October 18, 2016. We visited three universities namely:
University of Santo Tomas (UST)
University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center Inc. (UERMMMCI)
MFI Foundation Inc.
UST is a huge university. We visited their museum and there we saw many species and religious images. They also told us about their huge international linkages and some of their facilities, namely their own hospital, Olympic-sized pool and a huge open field for major events. Most importantly, they were granted four QS Stars for excellence.
Next, we visited the UERMMMCI. They offer courses mostly related to medicine. Their 5-year physical therapy program is the first and only physical therapy program in the country granted Level III accreditation by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities or PAASCU. Their College of Nursing is one of the only 3 Nursing Programs in the Philippines accredited Level IV by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP) through the PAASCU.
The last institution we visited was MFI Foundation Inc. They offer mostly Tech-Voc courses for students. What I liked the most was their Automation and Mechatronics courses. Mechatronics is a combination of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. There we saw the machine they used for an international competition representing the Philippines. It is a mini replica of what happens in a factory. It has five stations and sorts its finish products on its own. It’s like the machine is thinking. MFI is widely known in the industry.
The whole university tour was both fun and educational. It helped us think about our choices for the future and how must prepare ourselves for our dreams.
