It was the 31st of December, the last day of 2015. People were busy preparing for the big event. The band was continuously playing music all around the streets while others were setting a stage for a concert that would happen that night. Kids started buying fireworks from different stores while some were preparing gifts for their friends and relatives. Everyone couldn’t hide their smiles as they waited for the countdown. You could see that everybody was full of excitement. As the evening struck, the concert started, the party music started playing, kids started lighting up firecrackers, and everyone was having fun. Everyone joined when it was time for the traditional countdown.
It’s 12 o’clock!!! Haaaaaapppyyyyyyy Neewwww Yeeeaaaarrrr!!! The noise of the colorful fireworks, “torotots” and coins could be heard everywhere! Even the church bells kept on ringing. We saw friends, families and neighbors greeting each other a happy new year! Children started jumping to grow taller, we displayed sweets and candies to represent a sweeter year ahead, some wore polka-dots in belief to have more money, everyone made noises like banging on pots and pans, playing loud music and blowing car horns to drive evil spirits away. “Media Noche” was shared by everybody. Everyone was filled with laughter and good cheer.
This is us Filipinos! This is how we celebrate New Year! Goodbye 2015 and hello 2016
